Rapha RCL Land Acknowledgement
Rapha Residential and Community Living Inc. (RaphaRCL) acknowledges that our organization operates on the traditional and treaty territory of the Michi Saagiig and Chippewa Anishinaabeg. These lands are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the ancestral homes of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island, Hiawatha, Curve Lake, and Alderville First Nations, as well as the Chippewas of Georgina Island, Rama, and Beausoleil First Nations.
We recognize with gratitude the enduring relationship that Indigenous Peoples have with this land, and we honor the stewardship of the Anishinaabeg who have cared for these lands and waters since time immemorial. We also acknowledge that Oshawa is now home to many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis individuals and families, whose histories, cultures, and contributions continue to enrich and shape our broader community.
The name “Oshawa,” rooted in Anishinaabemowin and meaning “a crossing place,” serves as a reminder of the deep and ongoing connections between land, water, and people. It inspires us to remain grounded in principles of respect, relationship, and responsibility in the work we do.
Rapha RCL is committed to reconciliation through reflection, education, and meaningful action. We acknowledge the lasting impacts of colonization and affirm our role in supporting pathways to healing, equity, and inclusion.
We recognize that we are all Treaty people and share in the responsibility of fostering a respectful and just relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities—now and for generations to come.
